골목대장 영어로?

 

At school I choose to boss around those who were two or three years my junior. With whom I could act the ringleader, rather than take my chances with those my own age, and later I chose which colleage to apply to based on my chances of obtaining a scholarship large enough for my needs. Ultimately, I settled for a job where I would be provided with a decent monthly salary in return for diligently carrying out my allotted tasks, at a company whose small size meant that I would value my unremarkable skills.

 

어린 시절에는 나보다 두 세살 어린 조무래기들을 거느리고 다니며, 골목대장 노릇을 했고, 자라서는 넉넉히 장학금을 받을 수 있는 대학에 지원했으며, 내 대단찮은 능력을 귀하게 여겨주는 작은 회사에서 내세울 것 없는 월급이나마 꼬박꼬박 받을 수 있다는 데 만족했다.

'Ringleader = 골목대장'

Longman: someone who leads a group that is doing something illegal or wrong.

영영 사전의 의미처럼, 조직을 이끄는 '우두머리, 대장'이라는 의미로 쓰입니다. 동네에서 노는 아이들 가운데 우두머리 노릇을 하는 아이를 가리킨다면 골목대장으로 표현할 수도 있겠죠.

Collins:The ringleaders in a quarrel, disturbance, or illegal activity are the people who started it and who cause most of the trouble.

또한 어떤 문제를 일으킨 주범, 주모자를 가리킬 때도 사용합니다.

저만 한게 아니에요!

 

▷ They all think I'm the ringleader

그들은 모두 내가 주모자라 생각한다.
