1. nitpick : 트집을 잡다, 시시콜콜 따지다, 꼬투리를 잡다

nits은 자그마한 이를 의미합니다. 누군가의 머리에서 이런 이를 pick 하는 일은 중요한 일이라고(not important) 볼 수 없겠죠. 예문을 살펴볼까요?

실례되는 질문이지만 연속성 폭발이 있다면 항상 하나만 생기지 않나요?

2. do a number on : 한 방 먹이다, 면목을 잃게 하다, 철저히 비판하다, 조롱하다, 속이다, 피해를 끼치다
Cambridge:to injure someone or something, or to hurt or embarrass someone
이 표현은 1960년 후반기에 흑인 사회에서 나온 슬랭으로 보통 계산적으로 철저한 방식으로 남을 속이거나(deceive), 망신시키거나(humiliating) 비판할 때(criticizing) 사용하는 북 아메리카 비격식 표현입니다. 혹은 복싱에서 각 펀치마다 숫자를 붙여서 표현하면서 유래된 표현이라는 해석도 있습니다.
▷ This is more than just a one-night stand. This lady's gonna do a number on you, mate.
이건 원나잇을 끝나는 게 아니에요. 이 숙녀분이 너 한 방 먹이겠다야.
▷ A definitive yes or no would be appreciated. Those cupcakes did a number on me

3. tip off : 제보하다, 귀띔해 주다
Cambridge:to warn someone secretly about something that will happen, so that they can take action or prevent it from happening
비격식 표현으로 tip-off 명사 형으로도 사용합니다.
▷ I got a tip-off.

▷ I'll tip off the press
언론에 알릴 거야
▷ if you yell for help, try to give the man some kind of coded message or otherwise tip him off, I am gonna pull out my pistol and shoot you in the head
도와달라고 소리 지르거나, 그 남자에게 일종의 코드 메시지를 보낸다거나 귀띔하려 한다면, 총을 꺼내서 너 머리에 총알을 박아줄 거야.
