이번 시간에는 county, state, district의 차이점을 간단하게 알아보겠습니다.

 

□ 차이점

 

1. county

Cambridge:a political division of the UK or Ireland, forming the largest unit of local government, or the largest political division of a state in the US

county는 미국, 영국에서 지역 문제를 다루는 자치권을 가진 국가의 지역을 의미합니다. city보다 크고 state보다 작은 '자치군, 자치주'를 의미합니다.

오렌지군은 미국 캘리포니아주에 있는 군이다. 2010년 인구 조사에 따른 인구는 3,010,232명으로 캘리포니아주의 군 중에서는 로스앤젤레스군과 샌디에이고군에 이어 3위, 미국 전체에서는 6위에 해당한다

2. state

Cambridge:a part of a large country with its own government, such as in Germany, Australia, or the US

state는 독일, 호주 또는 미국과 같은 자체 정부를 가진 큰 국가의 일부입니다. 여러 개 county들이 합쳐진 주(州)를 의미합니다.

3. district

Longman:an area of a town or the countryside, especially one with particular features

district는 두 가지 의미로 쓰입니다.

 

1) (특정한 특징이 있는) 지구

 

▷ That school district.

그 학군

 

2) (한 국가 내에서 공공 업무 편의상 나눠 놓은) 구역

 

▷ Robot's in the financial district. Which exit?

로봇이 금융 지구에 있어요 어느 출구요?
