이번 시간에는 always, all the time, at all time, all time의 차이점을 알아보겠습니다.

 

□ 차이점

 

1. always 

Collins:If you always do something, you do it whenever a particular situation occurs. If you always did something, you did it whenever a particular situation occurred

always는 시간과 사건을 연관시킬 때 사용됩니다. 어떤 특정한 사건이 발생할 때마다 해당되는 행동을 '지속적으로, 늘 그래 왔듯이, 항상'한다는 의미입니다. 

 

▷ Stepmother is always late for everything

새엄마는 모든 일에 항상 늦는다

 

2. all the time(= the whole time)

Oxford:during the whole of a particular period of time

Longman:continuously or very often

all the time은 특정 기간 동안 지속되고 반복되는 정도를 나타내어 '내내, 줄곧, 아주 자주'를 의미합니다. always와 달리 그 시간에 일어난 사건과 상관없이 오직 시간만을 연관시킬 때 사용하여 항상 구문 마지막에 나옵니다.

 

▷ They were in my pocket the whole time!

그것들은 줄곤 내 주머니에 있었어!

 

3. at all times

merriam-webster:without stopping or changing at any time

at all times 공식적인 규칙이나 법규 따위에서 주로 사용되며, '항상, 언제나' 중단되거나 변경되지 않음을 나타냅니다.

 

▷ and maintain discipline at all times

그리고 항상 규율을 유지해야 한다

4. all time

Longman:used when you compare things to say that one of them is the best, worst etc that there has ever been

all time은 '역대, 사상' 최상, 최저를 구분할 때 사용합니다.

▷ It's hitting an all-time low of $18

사상 최저치인 18달러를 기록하고 있다
