1. illness
Collins:Illness is the fact or experience of being ill
illness는 환자의 관점에서 본 '병, 아픔'을 의미합니다. 같은 원인의 병이라도 환자가 느끼는 아픔은 각자 다릅니다. 병의 원인보단 환자가 느끼는 '상태'를 강조하는 표현입니다.

줄리는 알 수 없는 병을 앓았다
Oxford:a type or period of illness
특정 종류의 질환을 나타내거나 해당 질환의 길이를 강조할 때도 사용합니다.
▷ She had a mental illness
그녀는 정신질환이 있었다
▷ Depression is a very serious illness
우울증은 매우 심각한 병이다
▷ You see, I have a terminal illness
난 불치병에 걸렸어요
2. disease
Cambridge:illness of people, animals, plants, etc., caused by infection or a failure of health rather than by an accident
disease는 의사의 관점에서 본 '질병, 질환, 병'을 의미하고 구체적인 병의 원인을 강조합니다.

심장병은 누구에게나 생길 수 있다
